Not another Dr Who companion

Posted in Catherine Tate, Dr Who by Tony C on August 10, 2007

Jeez…you have thought that by now the Dr Who production team would be able to hang on to an actor long enough to play ‘the companion’ for more than five minutes but it appears not, unless of course Russell TD has some master plan up his sleeve which we’re not privy to.  So Kylie is the companion for the Christmas special then Catherine Tate for the next series, some people aren’t impressed, and what of poor old Freema Agyeman?  Well she only gets to play in the 2nd half of Series 4 apparently .   I rather liked the character of Martha Jones and to think that the Dr Who folks have got bored of her already is a shame, as for Catherine Tate…I just don’t see it working.  Russell TD may have is work cut out selling this one to the faithful.

It’s all down to the writers. If they write Tate’s character as a pointless annoying bint, that’s what she’ll be. Personally I though Freema was excellent and deserves to be there again.

So far since the resurrection of the series, the writing has been patchy… great one week and then dire the next. Remember the Big Brother / Weakest Link episode? Woeful. Ardal O’Hanlon as a big talking cat? Watching that was like sitting on your own balls. The only constant has been David Tennant, who could be engaging and entertaining if he was reading an Exchange 2007 installation manual out loud. When he leaves then the series will be in trouble.
